Researchers also found that the 19 percent of patients who developed esophageal dilatation and kept the band regained a significant amount of weight. Researchers looked at data from 1,088 patients who underwent laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding between 2004 and 2008. Of these, 16 patients (1.47 percent) developed esophageal dilatation.
