NIST Releases New Tool for Meeting HIPAA Security Requirements

A new resource, created by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, is designed to help healthcare organizations meet regulations of the HIPAA Security Rule, according to a NIST news release.

The free HIPAA Security Rule Toolkit is designed as a self-assessment tool to identify electronic data security risks and includes a user guide and software application. The toolkit follows the HIPAA structure of administrative, physical and technical safeguards; organizational requirements; policies and procedures; and documentation requirements.

The toolkit does not guarantee HIPAA Security Rule compliance, according to the release.
