Based in Los Angeles, Dr. Feiz and Monali Misra, MD, are among the first bariatric surgeons to use the new instruments, manufactured by Transenterix using more resilient titanium and ceramic combinations.
While instruments currently used in gastric sleeve and lap-band surgery leave a 5mm scar in the abdomen, Dr. Feiz said the new micro-lap instruments are so thin that the scar they leave is just 2.7mm in diameter.
