University of Miami Health System, known as UHealth, acquired Physicians Group of South Florida, effective Nov. 2. The deal moved the North Miami practice’s three gastroenterologists to UHealth SoLé Mia Medical Center.
David Cohen, MD, Arin Newman, MD, and Daniel Wolfson, MD, now see gastroenterology and endoscopy patients on the fourth floor of the North Miami ambulatory center. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
The deal brings eight physicians into UHealth. The group’s five primary care physicians stay at the practice’s existing office, which has been renamed UHealth North Miami, on Northeast 123rd St. UHealth said the two sites are close enough to let primary care physicians, gastroenterologists and other specialists coordinate patient care more closely.
The practice was founded in Miami Beach in 1967 and has served the North Miami area for about 20 years.
Roy Weiss, MD, PhD, is UHealth’s chief medical officer for ambulatory services and chair of the department of medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He said pairing the North Miami practice with SoLé Mia creates “a stronger continuum of care in North Miami.” Dr. Weiss said the goal is to give patients access to academic specialty care close to where they live and work.
UHealth SoLé Mia opened in October 2025. At seven stories and 363,000 square feet, it is the largest ambulatory center in UHealth’s network.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
