UT Health Austin’s specialty practice and ASC now operate as UT Dell Medicine, according to an Oct. 27 news release.
The practice provides specialty care in orthopedics, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, pulmonology and urology, plus primary care. Under the new name, those services sit in one system with Dell Medical School’s research and education programs.
UT Dell Medicine plans to grow its specialty footprint significantly. Once fully operational, the system expects to double its clinical capacity by adding physicians and advanced practice providers, and to more than triple its patient volumes.
The specialty services will feed into UT Dell Medical Center, a flagship hospital set to open in 2030. The hospital will focus on cardiovascular, cancer, neurological and transplant care, along with advanced intensive care. Under a collaboration with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, MD Anderson physicians will work inside UT Dell Medicine’s care teams to expand access to advanced cancer treatments and clinical trials.
Claudia Lucchinetti, MD, UT’s executive vice president for medical affairs and executive leader of UT Dell Medicine, unveiled the name at the university’s Health Transformation Building in Austin. Dr. Lucchinetti said the system will connect care across specialties and integrate prevention, treatment and recovery.
“This is a shift in our fundamental nature that puts patients at the center,” UT Austin President Jim Davis said.
Dell Medical School already partners with Ascension Seton, Central Health and other community organizations across Central Texas.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
