According to the release, the revalidation is required under Section 6028 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. According to the provision, all providers and suppliers who were enrolled before March 25, 2011, and have not revalidated since their initial enrollment must revalidate enrollment information within 60 days of receiving notice from their carriers.

Providers must revalidate no later than March 23, 2013. The new program is intended to combat Medicare fraud by including all providers in a tiered screening process.
