Here are four hospitals and health systems that laid off employees in the month of August, as reported by Becker’s:
1. Brattleboro (Vt.) Memorial Hospital shared plans to lay off nine employees as part of a broader financial recovery plan aimed at strengthening the hospital’s long-term stability. The workforce reduction follows an evaluation of the hospital’s financial outlook, staffing levels and operational needs.
2. San Diego-based Sharp HealthCare reduced its workforce and realigned operations across several areas, affecting about 260 employees. Many were immediately offered alternative employment within the system, and the net reduction amounts to just under 1% of Sharp’s workforce.
3. Cincinnati-based UC Health shared plans to close Bridgeway Pointe, its assisted living facility on the Daniel Drake Campus, and eliminate 49 positions. The facility is expected to close permanently Oct. 31, with 24 state-tested nursing assistant and 20 licensed practical nurse positions among those affected.
4. Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary, La., eliminated 14 positions across the organization, including two physicians, two directors and 10 staff positions. The 131-bed hospital also plans to end its allergy, asthma and immunology services Sept. 4, citing insufficient patient volume.
