SK&A conducted a telephone survey of nearly 169,000 medical offices representing approximately 480,000 physicians in 56 therapeutic specialties.
Other findings of the survey include the following:
- Sixty-eight percent of physicians prefer samples to be delivered either in-person by a sales representative or mailed by the manufacturer or distributor.
- Allergists/immunologists had the highest sample acceptance rate of 96% percent, followed by ophthalmologists, dermatologists and urologists (92 percent).
- As medical practice size increased, sample acceptance rates decreased. Practices with 3-5 physicians had an acceptance rate of 76 percent while practices with 10-19 doctors had an acceptance rate of 54 percent.
