Mississippi Recovers $6M From Pharma Companies That Improperly Billed Medicaid

The Mississippi attorney general's office has recovered $6 million from three pharmaceutical companies that misreported prescription drug prices to Medicaid, according to an AG news release.

Attorney General Jim Hood said two settlement agreements were reached: one with Par Pharmaceutical; and the other with Alpharma USPD and Purepac Pharmaceutical, which are now known as Actavis MidAtlantic and Actavis Elizabeth, respectively.

"Evidence has shown that some of these pharmaceutical manufacturers reported prices inflated as much as 1200 percent over their actual costs," said Attorney General Hood.

The Mississippi AG initiated litigation in 2005 and has previously settled with eight other pharmaceutical companies for a total of 10 formalized settlements and net recovery of nearly $45 million.
