American Academy of Pain Medicine: Eliminate Pain as a Major Health Crisis Now

The American Academy of Pain Medicine says now is the stop to eliminate pain as a major health crisis, according to a news release.

"With definitive research, evidence and regulation supporting better pain management and the release of the Institute of Medicine's seminal report: 'Relieving Pain in America: A Blueprint for Transforming Prevention, Care, Education and Research,' the time is now to learn how to bring these elements together to start eradicating one of the most ignored medical conditions in our lifetime," AAPM President Perry G. Fine, MD, said in the release.

The academy's upcoming annual meeting focuses on providing information to the research, medical and regulatory community so they can better treat and manage pain. The annual meeting will be held Feb. 22-26 at the Palm Springs (Calif.) Convention Center.
