Boston Scientific's $1.85B in 3Q sales, $55B AbbVie-Shire deal fall through & more – 7 GI/endoscopy company key notes

Here are seven recent news updates on gastroenterology/endoscopy companies.

AbbVie dropped its $55 billion bid to merge with biopharmaceutical company Shire, according to a report by The Boston Globe.

Boston Scientific reported $1.85 billion in sales for the third quarter of 2014. The company's endoscopy product line accounted for $534 million of third quarter sales.

The FDA approved the new cranberry flavored PREPOPIK bowel preparation from Ferring Pharmaceuticals.

Cantel Medical reported 5 percent growth in profit for its fourth quarter. The company's sales growth was led by its Medivators Endoscopy division, which had a 23 percent year-over-year growth in sales.

Olympus commercially launched its single-use VisiGlide 2 guidewires. The FDA 510(k) cleared guidewires are designed for use in endoscopic treatment of the biliary and pancreatic ducts.

PENTAX Medical launched its i10 Series HD+ Endoscopes in the United States and Canada. The scopes are designed to provide high resolution images for colonoscopy and gastroscopy procedures.

Salix Pharmaceuticals could be acquired. The company has been in contact with Allergan and Actavis for the discussion of a potential acquisition.
