SCA partners with multispecialty Connecticut ASC
Optum's Surgical Care Affiliates made an equity investment in Danbury-based Western Connecticut Orthopedic Surgery Center, effective May 1. Western Connecticut Orthopedic Surgery Center is a multispecialty ASC with 14 physician partners.

Novant Health appeals CON denial for ASC operating room
North Carolina-based Novant Health appealed the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services' decision to deny the health system's proposal to build an ASC with an operating room in Leland, N.C. The state approved North Carolina-based EmergeOrtho's proposal to build a $4.2 million ASC with one operating room and two procedure rooms in Leland earlier in May.

CMS approves interventional pain management registry for quality reporting
CMS approved the National Interventional Pain Management - Qualified Clinical Data Registry for the 2017 reporting year. The National Interventional Pain Management - Qualified Clinical Data Registry is designed to help pain physicians meet regulatory requirements for quality reporting in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System under the CMS Qualified Payment Program.

Kentucky pain management clinic expanding ASC
Pain Management Center of Paducah (Ky.) expanded its clinic and surgery center. The clinic's ASC added three more operating rooms.

Senate Republicans begin drafting ACA repeal legislation
Senate Budget Chairman Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., told Politico he and fellow senators are starting to compose an ACA repeal bill. Mr. Enzi did not provide specifics but said he wants legislators to collaborate on the bill. He is working with different party leaders and others to draft a viable reform bill.

Molina Healthcare investigates possible data breach
Molina Healthcare is looking into a potential data breach that may have impacted patient medical information. The payer shut down its online patient portal until it fully assessed the situation.

The CDC, The Joint Commission team up on ambulatory infection prevention project
The Joint Commission and the CDC are collaborating on CDC guidelines related to preventing infections in ambulatory health settings. The Adaptation and Dissemination Outpatient Infection PrevenTion guidance project is consulting with 12 outpatient-focused professional organizations and 11 ambulatory systems to create new infection prevention guidelines.
