Andrew Hayek, CEO of Surgical Care Affiliates, has sold 10,101 shares of company stock for a total transaction price of $363,029.94. He now directly owns 76,271 shares of SCA stock, valued at $2.74 million.

New law will let more Texans negotiate OON bills with help from state
A law that takes effect Sept. 1 will allow more patients to obtain assistance from the Texas Department of Insurance to negotiate lower bills from out-of-network hospital-based physicians.

AAAHC accredits The Vancouver Clinic’s ASC
The Vancouver (Wash.) Clinic’s ambulatory surgery center received Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care accreditation.

Cleveland Clinic to acquire full ownership of Akron General
Cleveland Clinic will take on full ownership of Akron (Ohio) General Health System after just one year as a minority investor in the system. The entire Akron General system will become part of Cleveland Clinic within the next few months if the deal receives state and federal regulatory approval.

Wireless sensors in orthopedic implants may detect SSIs
Researchers are investigating whether incorporating small wireless sensors into orthopedic implants could have the potential to detect surgical site infections. The National Institutes of Health gave researchers a $429,560 grant for the study and researchers will test an antigen-sensitive hydrogel incorporated into a small, wireless sensor as a non-invasive tool to detect SSIs in implants.

Analytik Jena AG, provider of analytical, bioanalytical and optical systems for industrial and scientific applications, created the world's first kit with CE-IVD certification for the molecular diagnostic quantification of hepatitis delta virus.

Night shifts may not negatively affect next-day surgeries
Night work does not present any more risk factors than already present during surgeries, according to a recent study published in New England Journal of Medicine.
