5 concepts on why keeping people healthy will reduce costs

With healthcare costs spiking, new strategies must be implemented to reduce costs while meeting the needs of consumers. Here are five strategies:

1. Healthcare professional can reduce costs related to inpatient admissions by as much as 75 percent through providing immediate access to care and early intervention.

2. Centra has provided comprehensive outpatient care to communities across their full service area. Through expanding access to services, providers will remain skilled in all levels of care with the additional volume.

3. Due to the excessive cost of electronic medical records, many physicians choose to be employed by health systems which allow them to focus on patient care and providing for all types of patients regardless of the ability to pay or insurance status.

4. Rather than relying on physicians to be sole advocates for patients' health, Centra has devised a program giving individuals access to programs aimed at maintaining their health.

5. Centra's Community Health Needs Assessment identifies those individuals who may need but never seek care, thus enhancing overall population health.
