Study: Cancer Surgery Patients' Infection Rates Rose, Death Rates Fell

Patients undergoing major cancer surgery had increased rates of healthcare-associated infections but decreased mortality rates from 1999 to 2009, according to a study in Cancer.

Researchers used data from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample between 1999 and 2009 to study HAI and in-hospital mortality rates of patients undergoing one of eight major cancer surgery procedures.
