Proteus Digital Health created an ingestible sensor to alerts physicians whether patients took their pills, according to BT.com.
Here are six points:
1. The Proteus Ingestible Sensor received FDA approval in July.
2. The sensor fits inside a sensor-enabled pill and is edible.
3. A patch on a patient's body knows when the pill reaches the stomach, and alerts both the patient and physician through a Discover app.
4. Pill location, heart rate, steps, blood pressure and rest information is all sent via Bluetooth to the app.
5. Physicians can use this information to monitor if patients are taking medication at the proper time and evaluate their progress.
6. Proteus and Otsuka Pharmaceutical designed a pill called ABILFY that encompasses the Proteus Ingestible Sensor; it is waiting for FDA review.
