Health officials confirmed the first human case of West Nile in Illinois this year, according to KSDK.com.

Here are four facts:

1. The Illinois Department of Public Health stated an adolescent female became sick from the virus in St. Clair County.

2. In 2014, health officials reported 44 human cases of West Nile virus in Illinois.

3. Four individuals died from the virus in Illinois last year.

4. Residents are encouraged to stay indoors between dusk and dawn to avoid contracting West Nile.
