Diabetes continues to plague many Americans with providers diagnosing more patients with prediabetes or diabetes every year.
Here are five facts based on a Healthcare Intelligence Network infographic, "Diabetes by the Numbers."
1. More than 8 percent of the U.S. population has diabetes, bringing this total to 25.8 million Americans.
2. Nearly 7 million Americans have undiagnosed diabetes.
3. There are 79 million prediabetic U.S. residents.
4. Providers diagnosed 1.9 million new cases of diabetes in people aged 20 years and older in 2010.
5. Compared to non-Hispanic whites, Hispanics are 66 more likely to have a diabetes diagnosis.
