5 things to know about 'leaky' vaccines strengthening viruses

Defective vaccines may lead to more powerful viruses, according to the Daily Star.

Here are five notes:

1. The study published by PLOS Biology revealed "leaky" vaccines protected poultry, but also enabled the virus to survive in a more destructive form.

2. The defective vaccines potentially could promote the evolution of "hot" viral strains that put unvaccinated people at risk.

3. Researchers cannot directly link the vaccine to the increasing virus strength, but the process was not as clear as the evolution of the germs that became resistance to antibiotics.

4. Scientists claim the findings will provoke the development of future vaccines.

5. Many researchers are concerned the study will add fuel to the fire concerning the option to not vaccinate children.
