350+ organizations voice concern to Trump over vaccination views — 5 things to know

More than 350 organizations sent a letter to President Donald Trump regarding their support for vaccines, according to the Washington Post.

Here are five things to know:

1. The American Academy of Pediatrics organized the effort after concern arose over Trump's "discredited claims about vaccine safety," the Post reports.

2. The president has posted tweets throughout the years saying there is a link between vaccination and autism. In March 2014, President Trump tweeted,  "Healthy young child goes to doctor, gets pumped with massive shot of many vaccines, doesn't feel good and changes - AUTISM. Many such cases!"

3. The authors start the letter speaking about vaccines' ability to protect children and save lives. It states, "Vaccines have been part of the fabric of our society for decades and are one of the most significant medical innovations of our time."

4. Organizations that signed the letter include the American Medical Association, Autism Speaks, Children's Defense Fund, Easter Seals and March of Dimes.

5. The organizations said they would like to meet with President Trump so the parties could discuss scientific evidence that illustrates vaccines' effectiveness.
