1st human case of West Nile reported in Pinellas County — 3 facts

A Florida man tested positive for West Nile in Pinellas County, according to The Ledger.

Here are three facts about the virus.

1. The 32-year-old man is the first human case of West Nile in Pinellas County this year.

2. Twenty-three sentinel chickens tested positive for West Nile in the county, serving as a line of defense to calculate the prevalence of the virus in the area.

3. Florida has had positive samples of the virus from five humans, eight mosquito pools and 76 sentinel chickens in 2015.
