Cigna serves as a beacon of hope for the ACA, expands into new markets: 4 things to know

Despite several payers withdrawing from Affordable Care Act marketplaces, Cigna is expanding into new ACA markets, according to The Hill.

Here are four things to know:

1. Cigna filed to offer plans to residents in Chicago; Raleigh/Durham area in North Carolina and Northern Virginia and Richmond, Va.

2. After suffering $1 billion losses on the ACA exchanges last year, Humana is drawing out of many exchanges.

3. Humana said it would participate in "no more" than 11 state marketplaces.

4. In April, UnitedHealth reported it was exiting many ACA exchanges, which raised questions about the ACA's sustainability.
