Gastroenterologist’s Medicaid payments suspended amid fraud allegations

The Office of Medicaid Inspector General has suspended payments for a gastroenterologist in Little Rock, Ark., amid an investigation into fraud allegations, Arkansas Business reported March 26.

Allegations against Alonzo Williams, MD, include performing medically unnecessary procedures, failure to adequately assess before invasive procedures and billing for unrendered services, according to a March 11 letter from the office cited by the publication. 

Dr. Williams practices at Arkansas Diagnostic Center. According to the report, the temporary suspension will continue until investigators conclude there is not enough evidence related to fraud or the legal proceedings are completed.
