A new report from Medscape examines whether employed physicians plan to stay in employment contracts or strike out on their own. Here are six statistics:

1. 2 percent plan to switch and become self-employed
2. 9 percent plan to seek employment with another organization
3. 38 percent plan to stay on the job for a year, but change their situation in the future
4. 43 percent plan to stay in their current situation for the future
5. 2 percent plan to change careers
6. 3 percent plan to retire
