The new reporting program builds upon work already done by the Metropolitan Chicago Breast Cancer Task Force’s Chicago Breast Cancer Quality Consortium. In 2009, the consortium started to collect quality data from participating providers on breast cancer screening and treatment to see whether providers met industry standards for those practices and procedures.

The consortium released its first report on breast cancer-related quality last year. It showed some hospitals failed to meet certain quality standards, such as failing to document detection of small tumors. A second report released today showed some improvement, but problems persist, according to the report.
The quality consortium will continue to collect quality data and provide assistance to providers who fall short of quality standards. Details on the payment model were not included in the report.
