Community Regional Medical Center in California Settles Lawsuit Involving Fatal Medication Error

Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, Calif., has settled a lawsuit filed by the family of a patient who died due to a fatal medication error, according to a local ABC report.

Elena Silva, who was admitted to the hospital for pain and numbness in her arm, was administered 50 times the ordered amount of heparin. The hospital has agreed to pay Ms. Silva’s family close to the maximum settlement amount allowed under state law — $250,000. Community Regional officials said the hospital has taken steps to ensure such an event doesn’t happen again.
