Two New York Health Systems to Build ASCs

United Health Services and Lourdes Hospital, both based in Binghamton, N.Y., plan on building outpatient surgery centers in the coming year, according to a report in the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin.

UHS plans to build its surgery center in Johnson City, N.Y., for $9.6 million, according to the report. The center will be housed on the third and fourth floors of 52 Wilson Square and will be used for procedures including eye surgery, breast biopsies, tonsillectomies, arthroscopic joint surgery and vasectomies. The center is expected to be completed by 2010.

Lourdes Ambulatory Care Center will be built as part of a $70 million renovation project by the hospital. The center will include gastroenterology, presurgical testing, cancer screening, imaging and cardiac rehabilitation. Construction has already begun on two new surgical suites, according to the report.
