Family practitioner Cassandra Faye Thomas, MD, of Jackson, Miss., will be tried this week, facing allegations that she received more than $16 million through fraudulent Medicare and Medicaid claims, according to a Clarion-Ledger report.
Dr. Thomas, the former owner of Central Mississippi Physical Medicine in Yazoo City and Flora, allegedly submitted $16 million in claims and was paid approximately $6.9 million in Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements from 2002 to 2005. She faces charges of conspiracy, healthcare fraud, making false statements, theft of public money and wire fraud.
Dr. Thomas’ attorney said she will vigorously assert and show she is innocent of the charges, according to the report.
