Here are four things to know:
1. Madison-based University of Wisconsin patients can download the app before surgery so they can track their wound and symptoms once they leave the hospital.
2. The app asks users to detail what the wound looks like, whether it’s draining and how much. Patients can send pictures of the wound to their physician.
3. Health and Human Services provided UW a $30 million grant for its projects. The app is one of the many projects aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and minimizing hospital readmissions.
4. Nearly 3 percent of surgical patients experience infections after surgery. The majority of these infections occur after patients leave the hospital.
