Some Wash. State Clinics not Taking New Pain Patients due to Crackdown

In anticipation of an extensive state crackdown on pill mills, some Washington State clinics have stopped taking new pain patients on opiates and a few have even cut off current pain patients, according to a News Tribune report.

Although the change in state licensing rules for physicians treating pain patients won’t take effect until Jan. 1, 2012, many clinics are already responding.

Physicians say the new rules will involve a lot of extra work, such as compiling records, checking ED reports, signing contracts with pain patients and arranging consultations.
