A survey of people with chronic pain commissioned by the foundation found that 14 percent of those with questions about their condition had not tried to reach out to their providers, and among those who did reach out, 17 percent said they faced difficulties getting answers.
Reasons cited for not reaching out to providers included not wanting to be a bother (11 percent of those surveyed), fear of looking like a complainer (8 percent) and fear of looking like a drug-seeker (7 percent). Harris Interactive conducted the survey online in Aug. 2011.
