Surgical Notes, a nationwide provider of medical transcription, coding, electronic medical records and other value-added IT services for ASCs, has been providing coding services for four years, but increased demand necessitated the commercial investment, says Jeff Blankinship, president & CEO of Surgical Notes.

“The request has been so great, we’ve been building that business up, so it was time to go and buy a building and dedicate the resources to it as a full-on operation,” he says.

Surgical Notes expects clients who use its transcription and coding services to see a faster turnaround for the submission of claims since the Surgical Notes coding team would have immediate access to the transcribed operative notes, thus eliminating the time needed to forward the transcription back to the ASC to then send it along to an outsourced coding company.

“By receiving your transcription and coding within 24-48 hrs (average time of 36 hours) from the time of surgery will allow your billing to performed much sooner, which will reduce your accounts receivables,” says Mr. Blankinship.

The company is also offering a reconciliation module which allows ASCs to monitor and track — on a real-time basis — the status of each surgery to determine if an operative report has been dictated, transcribed and coded.
