Surgical Management Professionals President, CEO Michael Lipomi to run for ASCA board of directors

Michael Lipomi, the president and CEO of Surgical Management Professionals, has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare, most of which have been devoted to the ambulatory surgery center industry. “Ever since the early 1980s, I have been interested in promoting the surgery center model,” says Mr. Lipomi.

During the 1980s, he served six years on the board of the Federated Ambulatory Surgery Association. He spent three of those years chairing FASA’s legislative committee. Following his tenure with FASA, Mr. Lipomi went on to become a founding member of the California Ambulatory Surgery Association. In his leadership role with SMP, he oversees a large number of ASCs across the country.

Now, Mr. Lipomi has been nominated for the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association board of directors. If elected to serve, he hopes to push for greater recognition of the ASC industry, improved reimbursement from government payers and continue to support ASCA’s commitment to education. “With all of the change coming from the PPACA, in reimbursement and advances in technology, it is critical we have strong association leadership,” he says. “With my history of serving in the ASC industry, I think I have something to add to the conversation.”
