Surgery Centers Would Post Prices for 50 Most Common Procedures Under North Carolina Bill

Two North Carolina lawmakers have introduced a bill that would require hospitals and outpatient surgery centers to disclose all costs associated with the 50 most common procedures performed at their facilities, according to a News & Observer report.

The legislation is backed by Sens. Bob Rucho (R) and Harry Brown (R).

Under the bill, cost information for the top 50 most common procedures would be published on the North Carolina Health Information Exchange, which is the state’s public health information forum.

The bill would also prevent hospitals and outpatient surgery centers from charging patients twice for radiology services that were provided once, according to the report.
