Medical, Surgical Treatments Both Effective for Uveitis Eye Disease

Patients with uveitis, an eye condition leading to vision loss, responded equally well to two common medical and surgical treatments over a period of two years, according to a Penn Medicine report.

Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania and other institutions found a similar degree of visual improvement using systemic anti-inflammatory medicine and a time-release implant placed surgically inside the eye.

 

Results of this study, the Multicenter Uveitis Steroid Treatment Trial, are published online in the journal Ophthalmology.
