One of the highlights of the symposium is a visit by Atul Gawande, MD, who chose South Carolina to pilot his Safe Surgery: 2015 initiative, which features a patient safety checklist. Dr. Gawande said since September, when he announced his choice of South Carolina, all the state’s hospitals performing surgery have implemented the list, according to the release.
