Using 14,913 discharge records, researchers assessed the impact of short-term and long-term glucose levels on healthcare-association bloodstream infections. Results of their analysis showed a positive correlation between short-term glucose levels of more than 110 mg/dL and increased risk of bloodstream infections. In addition, hypoglycemia and hemoglobin A1c levels were not linked to risk of bloodstream infections.
