“Both Republicans and Democrats agree that rising health care costs and increasing costs to Medicare are a major driver of the country’s troubling deficits,” Mr. Rooney said. “As the President, Congress and all parties to the health care delivery system search for ways to contain healthcare costs, group purchasing organizations continue to demonstrate that they are a critical piece of the cost-savings solution.”
According to Mr. Rooney, GPOs are projected to save Medicare between between $104 and $230 billion by 2017, and Medicaid between $74.1 and $162.5 billion over the same period.
