Further, the AORN says in a statement, standardized evidence-based data derived from the SPR documentation will be gathered into a secure national data repository, which will support benchmarking activities across operative settings and institutions, enabling OR professionals to measure outcomes and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of care.
‘With the advent of federal requirements for all patients to have an electronic health record by 2014, AORN is leading perioperative professionals into the future of healthcare,” says Linda Groah, RN, MSN, CNOR, FAAN, AORN’s executive director. “This innovative initiative to create an electronic standardized, evidence-based data collection system will, ultimately, improve the quality of patient care during the surgical experience.”
AORN has engaged Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) to create the SPR and the data repository.
