Here are three things to know about this surgery center’s efforts to share cost of care information with patients.
1. St. George Surgical Center began offering an “instant quote system” six months ago. Patients can go online and receive a quote that includes preoperative care, postoperative care, surgeon fee, facility fee and anesthesia fee, according to the report.
2. The ASC offers price quotes for more than 70 procedures. The center plans to add another 30 procedures soon. Thus far, the price quotes have not varied from the actual cost of care.
3. “I think people appreciate that kind of transparency. Right now, if you go and get surgery at a hospital, you’ll find out what you’re paying most likely after the fact,” said Jerry Hadlock, CRNA, director of anesthesia, according to the report.
