“Our whole mission is to provide ASC owners and managers with tools that are affordable, relevant and real time,” says Mr. Seitz. “We are fulfilling a need that no one else is meeting.”
MMX Healthcare solutions include AccredAbility and ManageMyASC, which are designed to enable ASC owners and operators to spot issues and recognize opportunities for improvement. These cloud-based solutions combine to provide regulatory compliance, quality improvement, patient satisfaction, financial performance and operational efficiency.
“We identified a need to deliver expertise in these areas outside of the large management companies,” says Mr. Seitz. “The vast majority of independent ASCs are left with a ‘do it yourself’ challenge. Accordingly, we developed very robust, cloud-based and affordable solutions that, when combined, present the owners and managers of the surgery center with the tools they require to achieve success.”
ManageMyASC was launched in 2011 and AccredAbility in 2012, with product development support from the multi-billon dollar technology and support company Cerratek/UST Global. MMX Healthcare distributes these products through their website (www.mmxhealthcre.com) and through a channel relationship with Cardinal Health.
ManageMyASC has proven beneficial to ASC owners and operators who can track their financial and operating metrics in real time. “It makes sense to review data in real-time which then allows for constant adjustments and improvements. You don’t want to wait until the month is closed to recognize that you did not meet your goals,” says Mr. Seitz, who has operated ASC and preformed numerous restructurings over the past 12 years. “This will become even more important for reimbursement and accountable care organization contracting.”
Ms. Glaser, an AAAASF Medicare Surveyor and accreditation specialist, says this about the AccredAbility solution, says, “Staff should be focused on getting results, not preparing reports. We designed this solution to be comprehensive and to be a staff resource. By organizing and simplifying the task completion and reporting, staff can spend more time on patient care and improving quality.”
In a recent article, Mr. Seitz and Ms. Glaser identified five core competencies for ASC owners and operators and defined their value. These competencies are measured by MMX’s solutions. In another article, they explain the importance of ASC interaction with ACOs and what owners and operators need to know before entering into ACO discussions.
“If you are going to participate in an ACO and risk sharing, you have to know your costs and how you are operating,” says Mr. Seitz. “Understand your cost structure; our tools allow you to do that in a straight-forward manner. If you are going to contract with other providers or ASCs in this area, it’s required you share quality data and performance metrics.”
In the coming year, the company plans to combine its solutions to create a “score card” for presenting an ASC’s results to payers for contracting purposes. They also aim to develop a bridge that would allow ASCs on different systems to network together for ACOs.
But even for centers not considering ACO participation, quality reporting and transparency has become extremely important. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will begin to penalize ASCs not reporting quality data and insurance companies want to know their members are receiving quality care.
Mr. Seitz and Ms. Glaser are very excited about 2014. “There are numerous program enhancements on the schedule and we have begun to develop our solutions for other healthcare verticals.”
ManageMyASC is a real-time, interactive management tool that provides an unprecedented view into the financial and operational performance of your surgery center and allows you to communicate this information quickly and accurately to physicians. MMASC integrates information from your scheduling/billing system and your accounting system to provide you with real-time reports, key performance indicators and benchmarks that can be used to solve problems and recognize opportunities.
AccredAbility is our comprehensive accreditation tracking and reporting solution. The program builds itself around your facility — number of ORs, accrediting agency (AAAHC, AAAASF, Joint Commission, Medicare) and creates the tasks and reports you need to perform. You can assign tasks to different staff and get notifications if a required task is not performed or there is an “outside normal” value. AccredAbility runs on any browser enabled device (iPad, iPhone, Android) speeding these tasks and allowing you and your staff to spend valuable time on other duties. In addition, AccredAbility now incorporates a simple but powerful email based patient satisfaction survey that sends, compiles and stores all reports. No more three ring binders and missing information. You are always ready for your next inspection.
