The 194-bed hospital is a trust of the city of McAlester, in Southeastern Oklahoma, and as such must receive voter approval for expenditures of more than $500,000.

The special election, scheduled for May 11, will decide whether the hospital authority will be allowed to incur up to $5.7 million of debt to purchase the building, according to the News-Capital.
