The bill, which was already passed by the Senate, was signed into law by Pres. Obama.
There was concern that the House version of the SCHIP bill would include language, penned with the help of Rep. Pete Stark, chairman of the House Ways and Means health subcommittee, that could restrict physician ownership of hospitals and ultimately stop the construction of any new physician-owned hospitals and create challenges for existing hospitals interested in expanding.
