14 California Hospitals Fined for Patient Safety Errors

The California Department of Public Health has fined 14 hospitals for noncompliance to standards designed to maintain quality and patient safety.

The hospitals were cited for a vide variety of reasons, including failure to follow policies and procedures for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, licensed vocation nurse competency, tracheostomy care and retained foreign objects. The fines total $825,000.

The cited hospitals include the following:

1.    California Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles
2.    Fountain Valley (Calif.) Regional Hospital and Medical Center
3.    John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Indio
4.    Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Los Angeles
5.    Kaiser Foundation Hospital in San Francisco
6.    Kaiser Foundation Hospital in South San Francisco
7.    Menlo Park (Calif.) Surgical Hospital
8.    Saint Agnes Medical Center in Fresno
9.    Saint Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco
10.    Simi Valley (Calif.) Hospital & Health Care Services
11.    St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton
12.    St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco
13.    Stanford (Calif.) Hospital University of California
14.    Irvine Medical Center
