RF Assure Detection System Implemented in Atlanta Hospital to Help Prevent Retained Surgical Items

RF Surgical Systems, a developer of solutions for the detection and prevention of retained surgical sponges, has announced Atlanta Medical Center has implemented the company’s RF Assure Detection System for use in its operating rooms, according to a RF Surgical Systems news release (pdf).

The RF Assure Detection System uses radio-frequency detection to help identify and prevent potential retained surgical items such as a piece of gauze or sponge.

 

“RF Surgical applauds Atlanta Medical Center for their leadership in patient safety and commitment to providing optimal care,” said Jeffrey Port, founder and chairman of RF Surgical, in the release. “Use of RF Assure in all surgical cases arms providers such as Atlanta Medical Center with a tool to help eliminate error in the operating room and to achieve the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency.”
