The law, which becomes effective July 14, will require physicians to have their offices accredited or face penalties if they continue to perform office-based surgeries.
According to the report, some physician offices will be unable to upgrade their facilities to meet accreditation requirements and will need to move their procedures to other facilities, such as surgery centers and hospitals, at least temporarily. One surgery center leader was quoted in the report, saying that the number of physicians credentialed at her facility has increased in recent weeks, likely as a result of the law.
