Proposed Virginia ASC’s Latest Hurdle: Economic Impact Report From Hospital-Hired Firm

The report, issued by an economic consulting firm hired by Danville Regional Medical Center, claims the ASC would negatively impact the hospital’s revenues and thus its ability to provide some inpatient services, according to the report.

Lynchburg, Va.-based Centra announced the $6.6 million project last year, which includes a two-operating room ASC, along with diagnostic imaging and a 24-hour emergency department.

Since the announcement, the ASC has seen its certificate of need request challenged by the hospital and the state’s Division of Certificate of Public Need recommending denial of the CON.

A nearby county has said it would welcome the addition of the ASC if it is not built in Danville.
