Rep. Dean Cannon, a Republican who is to become House speaker in November, said the proposal, which his Select Policy Council on Strategic and Economic Planning wrote and approved, is likely not going anywhere this year, according to the report.

The comments came as the state’s House and Senate budget writers gathered to hammer out the spending plan for the year that begins July 1. Florida Gov. Charlie Crist has expressed concerns about the Medicaid reform expansion plan, and Senate Ways and Means Chairman J.D. Alexander, R-Lake Wales, said the governor’s aides had said he would veto the bill.
