President Obama to Appoint Dr. Donald Berwick to Lead CMS

Dr. Berwick previously served on an advisory commission for patients rights under former President Bill Clinton and on an Institute of Medicine panel focused on reducing medical errors and patient safety.

Dr. Berwick’s appointment now faces Senate confirmation, which is expected to be used by Senators as a “forum to debate the merits of the new healthcare law and to investigate how the administration plans to carry it out,” according to the report.
