In a clinical study at a 10-room suite, researchers compared the drug waste between two phases of less than 200 surgeries. When using the prefilled syringes, the total volume of discarded drugs decreased 61 percent, and only 38 percent of cases had drug waste compared to 71 percent when using traditional syringes. The cost of the drug waste decreased from $3,106 to $1,849 when switching to prefilled syringes.
